Hands of War RPG – is one of a rare epic free flash games, which can actually compete with fully blown big PC games, and moreover – PC RPG games! Even though the game graphics and the RPG systems are simple compared to big PC RPG games, the game is surprisingly very deep, fun and addictive – once getting into it – you will see time going by very quickly. And the biggest surprise is that such a big and quality game comes completely free!
You start Hands of War RPG by choosing your class (3 usual choices are available – you can play as a fighter, as a mage or a ranger). The game is centered around factions:
– The Alliance (the good guys) fights versus Shadow Runners (the bad guys)
– Merchant’s guild (the good guys) fights versus The Mercenaries (the bad guys)
– and 3 classes all fight between each other – The Blademasters (fighter class) vs The Magicians (mages) vs The Trackers (rangers)
You’re free to choose any side in any of these 3 withstandings. Your choice affects which quests will be available to you. And your actions influence your standing with all factions.
The quests are all standard and simple, which is actually pretty disappointing. All quests require you to kill some number of enemies, or “The Boss”. All enemies stand in their place and the most aggressive will go to you if you’re close to them. While it feels great at start, as you’re not forced into action, and can slowly progress without fearing being killed by anyone quickly, and generally people loving a slow-paced action will enjoy it, but on the other hand it gets boring later on as everything feels the same – you keep executing the same actions, and your enemies are way too passive to create any additional interest.
Still, for a free flash RPG game, it’s pretty impressive and fun. It’s simple, easy to pick up, fun and addictive to play. It gives you free choices – in faction selection as well as in fighting style selection – when you level up, you unlock different abilities and it’s up to you how to use them in fight. It gives you everything you want to see in a simple RPG, and it doesn’t require you to understand any complex systems, or read long texts – which is a pretty successful combination for the flash game.
There are some drawbacks in Hands of War RPG, such as: it gets too repeatable in the end; lack of quest diversity; too static enemies; a feeling of bad thought-over towards the end of the game – you have to raise your standing with the faction, but you can only do so by killing the other faction’s people (as no more quests are available), and it takes painfully long time as each kill gives you very little raise in faction rating…
Still, all in all – Hands of War RPG is a great free online game, which any RPG fan should try. There is nothing to lose, so just go on and play it!
